After a week of heavy rainfall, Taiwan will embrace dry days and warm temperatures next week starting 6774822Wednesday and will last till at least Friday, according to the latest Central Weather Bureau (CWB) forecast.

Due to the effects of the outer periphery of Typhoon Haima, parts of Taiwan are still expected to see heavy rain throughout the weekend. The weather bureau on Friday morning issued heavy rain and torrential rain warnings for six cities and counties in Taiwan, including Keelung and New Taipei Cities, as well as Yilan, Hualien, Taitung, and Pingtung Counties.

The CWB also warned of strong wind gusts throughout the day for all parts of the island except Taipei, Chiayi Cities, and Nantou County.

The latest forecast also indicates that an area of high pressure will arrive in the nation next Wednesday, bringing a great deal of sunshine and high temperatures to the island. The brief warm spell is expected to last until Friday, the forecasters said.

The bureau reminded the public on precautions against heat stroke and overexposure to the sun due to high UV level expected next week.    [SOURCE]

barreling southward on a course to make landfall in northern Luzon of the Philippines sometime between late Wednesday and early Thursday, and is expected to spare Taiwan.
Meanwhile the Central Weather Bureau has issued a heavy rainfall warning for southeastern Taiwan and the Hengchun Peninsula of Pingtung County triggered by the typhoon’s peripheral circulation, which will begin to impact Taiwan on Thursday.

The bureau said the chance of issuing a sea warning for the typhoon is diminishing but could not rule out the possibility.

The typhoon quickly strengthened over the past three days, reaching typhoon status on Sunday morning. It continued to intensify and reached super typhoon status early Tuesday, with sustained winds over 280 km/h late Tuesday. This is the equivalent of a catastrophic Category 5 hurricane in the Atlantic Ocean.     [FULL  STORY]

based on current projections, the periphery of typhoon is expected to come into contact with Taitung, Hualian and Pingtung on October 20 or 21, bringing heavy rain to those cities. Yilan as well as mountainous areas in the north and south will see brief showers.
Typhoon Haima, the 22nd typhoon of the year, as of 8 a.m. Monday was 2,130 km southeast of Eluanbi, and was moving west-northwest at 25 kilometers per hour, with maximum sustained winds of 144 kph and gusts of up to 180 kph, according to the Central Weather Bureau. Haima may begin to impact the Philippine island of Luzon, or Taiwan late on Wednesday, Oct. 19 or 20, possibly as a super typhoon, before eventually making landfall in Guangdong, China.

Wu De-rong believes that due to high ocean temperatures and low vertical wind shear, the storm will continue to strengthen and will be close to Luzon island before reaching its greatest intensity. At which time it will at least become a strong typhoon if not a super typhoon.     [FULL  STORY]

based on current projections, the periphery of typhoon is expected to come into contact with Taitung, Hualian and Pingtung on October 20 or 21, bringing heavy rain to those cities. Yilan as well as mountainous areas in the north and south will see brief showers.

Typhoon Haiman, the 22nd typhoon of the year, as of 8 a.m. Monday was 2,130 km southeast of Eluanbi, and was moving west-northwest at 25 kilometers per hour, with maximum sustained winds of 144 kph and gusts of up to 180 kph, according to the Central Weather Bureau. Wu De-rong said, at its present path, he estimates it will gradually approach Luzon and Eastern and Northern Taiwan by Oct. 19, bringing gradually increasing rains. On Oct. 20 or 21 its peripheral circulation current will likely bring heavy rains to Taitung, Hualian and Pingtung, while mountainous areas of Yilan and the South and North will also have brief showers.    [FULL  STORY]

Taipei, Oct. 13 (CNA) This year’s No. 21 tropical storm has developed into a typhoon named 13820207Sarika at 9:00 p.m. Thursday, but the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) does not expect it to affect Taiwan as it was moving west through Luzon into the South China Sea.

The CWB said Typhoon Sarika, currently located 1,100 km southeast of Eluanbi, the southern tip of Taiwan, will not bring heavy rain to the island after interacting with the season’s northeast winds.

However, the cloud systems on the outskirts of the typhoon could create precipitation in eastern Taiwan and showers in northern and southern parts of the island from Oct. 17-18.    [SOURCE]
