Chinese spy case to be handled in line with cross-strait pact: Official

The case of a detained Chinese student suspected of spying for China will be handled in line with a cross-strait agreement. That’s the word from Deputy Justice Minister Chen Ming-tang on Monday.

The agreement on judicial mutual assistance and the joint fight against crime went into effect in 1998. Under the agreement, both sides agreed to immediately notify the other should detainees’ personal freedom be restricted.

Chen said the Chinese detainee will receive fair treatment in Taiwan.   [FULL  STORY]
