Chinese Taipei weightlifter Hung Wan-ting wins her first international gold

Lin Geng-neng, Chinese Taipei weightlifter Hung Wan-ting shook off a setback in the snatch to surpass Kazakhstan’s Karina Goricheva and win the women’s 69-kg gold. The medal — secured with a 227-kg lift, 101 kg in the snatch and 126 kg in the clean and jerk — was the second weightlifting gold for the host team at this Universiade.

Hung had planned to retire from weightlifting last year but decided to compete at the Taipei Universiade after encouragement from Lin. Both of the 27-year-old athletes teared up after the victory. “I’m so happy and thrilled. This made everything worth it,” she said. “This is my first gold medal in an international competition. My coach believed I had a chance, and now we have done it together.”    [FULL  STORY]
