Taipei, Dec. 12 (CNA) Two clean air civic groups are calling on residents of central and
southern Taiwan to take to the streets in Taichung and Kaohsiung on Sunday, to highlight the urgent need for cleaner air.
“(People living in) central and southern areas shouldn’t be the victims of air pollution,” said Yeh Guang-peng (葉光芃), a physician and director of the Taiwan Healthy Air Action Alliance, on Tuesday as he urged people to take part in the marches.
Sunday’s rallies are being organized by Yeh’s alliance and the South Taiwan Air Clear Alliance.
Yeh said at a press conference held at the Legislative Yuan in Taipei that the government has failed to take active measures to deal with “five failings” in national health and as a result has lost the hearts of the people. [FULL STORY]
