Taipei, Feb. 1 (CNA) A fire broke out in the rear master cabin of a LaFayette-class frigate conducting a trial run in waters off Zuoying, with one officer suffering mild burns on his arms.
The petty officer first class surnamed Chen was sent to a hospital for treatment and was said to be in stable condition.
The Navy said the crew put out the fire in line with standard operation procedures, and no major equipment or sections of the ship were reported damaged after initial examinations.
The Navy said it was investigating the cause of the fire and has also asked to step up inspections and damage prevention measures for other ships in Taiwan’s LaFayette fleet. [FULL STORY]
