Taipei, May 16 (CNA) An estimated 20 hectares of farmland in Bade District in Taoyuan were damaged by the heavy rain that poured down on the metropolitan area Monday morning and caused flooding, according to the city’s department of agriculture.

Representatives of the department inspected the damaged areas in Bade on Monday and recorded the losses that had occurred after receiving notification from farmers that their fields had flooded.

The department estimated the damaged areas at about 20 hectares, and will assist the affected farmers in applying to the Council of Agriculture for financial assistance.     [FULL  STORY]
