As the 2020 Olympics approach, one of Taiwan’s best prospects for a medal is busy preparing. Now, after a recent string of silver medal performances at major competitions, he has finally bagged a gold.

Gymnast Lee Chih-kai has placed first in the men’s pommel horse event at the World Challenge Cup in Croatia. The cup is one of the annual competitions held under the auspices of the International Gymnastics Federation.

Lee’s score of 15.333 put him ahead of Akim Mussayev of Kazakhstan and Vasili Mikhalitsyn of Belarus. His achievement ends a streak of silver medals for pommel horse in Qatar, Australia, and Azerbaijan.

Lee represented Taiwan at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics while not fully fit, but his performance did not qualify him to advance. He later made a comeback, winning gold as part of the home team at last year’s Universiade in Taipei. Now, with another international victory under his belt, Lee has his sights set on the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.    [SOURCE]
