Taipei, Aug. 5 (CNA) Thousands of fans flooded a university sports center in Taipei on Wednesday to greet NBA superstar Kobe Bryant, who was there to coach dozens of young Taiwanese players at a summer basketball camp.
Bryant, who was on a one-day visit to Taiwan, was greeted by an arena full of screaming fans when he appeared at National Taiwan University Sports Center to give pointers to around 30 young players on their footwork, agility and ball skills.
Toward the end of the event, Bryant gave four of the players a pair of his new sneakers and then created some drama when he offered to give each of the 30 players a pair of sneakers if one of the four could hit a free throw.
The player who volunteered drew a big ovation when he nailed the shot, and an impressed Bryant gave him a hug and told him: “Good job!”
“I just thank you so much for all the support, for all the inspiration. And I enjoy coming here,” the 36-year-old Los Angeles Lakers star said.
