President Ma Ying-jeou expressed his grave regret Thursday evening at the Ministry of
National Defense (MND), calling for student protestors not to take the radical path by way of suicide, but rather through peaceful negotiation to solve their differences in opinion.
Ma urged the Ministry of Education (MOE) to hold talks with the students as soon as possible and try to come to terms with them but all the while under the legal boundaries of the constitution.
His comments came during a press conference at the defense ministry, where the president was taking part in the premiere of a new documentary about the nation’s air force produced by the National Geographic Channel.
