Magnitude 4.6 quake hits eastern Taiwan

Taipei, May 31 (CNA) A magnitude 4.6 earthquake jolted eastern Taiwan at 9:03 a.m. Thursday, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).

No casualties or damage were immediately reported.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located at sea about 13.1 kilometers northeast of Taitung County Hall at a depth of 7.4 km, the bureau’s Seismology Center said.

The earthquake’s intensity, which gauges the actual effect of a temblor, was highest in downtown Taitung, where it measured 5 on Taiwan’s 7-tiered intensity scale.

The earthquake could be felt in Pingtung, Tainan and Kaohsiung, with an intensity level of 1.     [SOURCE]
