Taipei, Sept. 28 (CNA) A magnitude 5.3 earthquake jolted northeastern Taiwan at 5:38 p.m.

Wednesday, according to the Central Weather Bureau.
The earthquake’s epicenter was located at sea about 116.1 kilometers east of Yilan County Hall at a depth of 64.9 km, bureau officials said.
Even though the earthquake’s highest intensity — which gauges the actual effect of a temblor — measured only 2 on Taiwan’s 7-tier intensity scale, it was felt in a broad range of the country.
The areas included Yilan, Hualien and Taitung in eastern Taiwan, New Taipei, Taoyuan and Hsinchu in northern Taiwan, as well as Taichung, Changhua and Nantou in central Taiwan.
The earthquake also measured an intensity of 1 in some districts of Taipei. [FULL STORY]
