Taipei, April 25 (CNA) The Netherlands has become the largest source of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Taiwan, providing US$3.5 billion last year, amid growing economic ties between the two countries, the Netherlands’ representative to Taipei said Thursday.

In an address to mark his country’s national day, Guy Wittich, head of the Netherlands Trade and Investment Office in Taiwan (NTIO), said that in 2018 two-way trade between the Netherlands and Taiwan grew to nearly US$10 billion, which made his country Taiwan’s second largest trading partner in the European Union.

“Last year, the Netherlands was also the largest foreign investor in Taiwan with US$3.5 billion dollars, Wittich said. “And likewise, the Netherlands was also the largest recipient of Taiwanese investments in Europe.”

Bilateral cooperation in other areas has also expanded, he said.    [FULL  STORY]
