New Taipei mayor again rules out presidential bid (update)

Taipei, April 17 (CNA) New Taipei Mayor Eric Chu (朱立倫) on Friday reiterated that he would 201504170010t0001not run for president next year, despite a new poll showing him as the ruling Kuomintang’s best chance of defeating opposition candidate Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文).

“I will not run in 2016,” he said in response to reporters’ questions.

His comment came after Hau Lung-bin (郝龍斌), vice chairman of the Kuomintang (KMT), said earlier this week that Chu has been “thinking long and hard” about whether to stand in the election, which is due to be held next January.     [FULL  STORY]
