Taipei has made public plans for the opening and closing ceremonies of the upcoming Universiade student games.

The city government says the August 19 opening ceremony will be international, will showcase local culture, and will be geared towards young people. Close to 10,000 athletes are expected to attend, representing universities in over 150 countries.

Both the opening ceremony and the closing ceremony on August 30 will feature performances by well-known local artists. Deputy Taipei mayor Chen Chin-jun said Tuesday that both ceremonies will feature Taiwan’s diverse culture and will blend artistry with technology. Chen said he is confident the ceremonies will change the way athletes and spectators alike think about Taiwan.    [SOURCE]
