Taipei, Dec. 25 (CNA) China Airlines (CAL), one of Taiwan’s leading international carriers, said Sunday that two of its flights between Taiwan and Japan’s Sapporo city will be deferred for one day due to heavy snow, which has paralyzed New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido’s capital.

Though the airport is now open, the snow has since Thursday affected numerous flights, which had to be canceled or delayed, and stranded thousands of passengers at the airport.

CAL said its flights CI134, from Taiwan’s Kaohsiung to Sapporo, and CI135, from Sapporo to Kaohsiung, which were scheduled for Sunday, will be delayed for 24 hours.

In addition, an EVA Airways flight from Taiwan’s Taoyuan to Sapporo, which was scheduled for 7:15 a.m., took off at 7:37a.m., while another flight scheduled for 9:30 a.m. was deferred until 12:00 p.m., while a return flight will be deferred to 4:35p.m. from the originally scheduled time of 2:05 p.m., the air carrier said.     [FULL  STORY]
