Taipei mayor Ko Wen-je reiterated Thursday during a meeting with Shanghai’s deputy mayor
Weng Tiehui in Taipei his concept that the “new perspectives of 2015” on cross-Taiwan Strait relations that he proposed earlier this year could be the foundation for future exchanges between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait.
Weng arrived in Taipei the previous day on an exchange visit following a trip to Shanghai in May by Taipei deputy mayor Chou Li-fang.
During Thursday’s closed-door meeting, which lasted for about 30 minutes, Ko and Weng exchanged gifts to symbolize the friendship between the two cities.
Asked whether Weng asked him to clearly state his position on the 1992 Consensus, Ko said that cross-strait exchanges should occur under the principles of of mutual awareness, mutual understanding, mutual respect and mutual cooperation, while adhering to the spirit of the understanding that “both sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to one family.” [FULL STORY]
