TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — An artificial-intelligence-based platform developed by Taiwan’s AI Labs in collaboration with Microsoft Taiwan was launched Thursday in Taipei. It is claimed that the platform will facilitate work of genetic analysis and thus promote the precision medicine industry in the country.

The platform, TaiGenomics, utilizes AI techniques to process, analyze, and draw inferences from vast amounts of medical and genetic data provided by patients and hospitals. It can help medical experts to diagnose or predict diseases more efficiently and reduce human errors, according to Microsoft.

Precision medicine, a medical model that provides customized healthcare and treatments based on a patient’s genetic analysis, relies heavily on technology such as the AI and machine learning algorithm. Since every human being possesses 19,000 to 20,000 genes, genetic testing is time-consuming, costly, and requires considerable data storage capability.

Taiwan AI Labs Founder Ethan Tu (杜奕瑾) said Taiwan boasts advanced development in the medical and information technology sectors, which are advantageous for the development of precision medicine. TaiGenomics can help the nation to build a world-class ecology for the precision medicine industry, added Tu.
