Taipei, Sept. 20 (CNA) Taiwan was the runner-up in the 2015 Asian Baseball Championship after beating Japan 3-1 Sunday in its first win against the archrival in 14 years.
South Korea won the championship early after beating all of its five opponents in the six-nation tournament. Both Japan and Taiwan lost their game against South Korea in a single round-robin schedule.
In Sunday’s final game to decide the second-place team, Taiwan took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth thanks to two hits and two walks, only for the Japanese to make it even in the seventh, when relief pitcher Chen Pin-hsue allowed a run that began with a walk followed by a wild pitch and a hit.
Su Chih-chieh retook the lead for Taiwan in the bottom of the inning with a solo homer and the home team players added another run in the eighth after the bases were loaded. [FULL STORY]
