American Greg Smith, a former player in his country’s professional league NBA, the team coach said Tuesday.
Smith had been eager to play basketball in Taiwan and wished to play with the Bank of Taiwan team, head coach Wei Chen-ming (韋陳明) said, adding that the relevant procedures were finalized Tuesday.
Bank of Taiwan, one of seven teams in the semi-professional SBL, has signed the 27-year-old former National Basketball Association (NBA) center, who is expected to arrive in Taiwan on the weekend, Wei said.
He said Smith’s first appearance with Bank of Taiwan is likely to be next week, when the SBL teams will play a series of warm-up games at Changhua County Stadium.
