Taiwan team departs for Asian Games

Taipei, Aug. 15 (CNA) Taiwanese athletes who will compete in the Asian Games left for Indonesia on Wednesday morning, with expectations of gold medal performances in several sports.

Almost 300 Taiwanese athletes and staffers took a chartered flight at around 7 a.m. to head to the most important sports event in Asia, which is scheduled to be held in Jakarta and Palembang from Aug. 18 to Sept. 2.

The Taiwanese athletes will participate in a wide range of sports, including tennis, weightlifting, taekwondo, badminton, gymnastics, swimming, female volleyball, cycling, female softball and wrestling, according to the Sports Administration of the Ministry of Education.

Before the team boarded the chartered flight at Taoyuan International Airport, Sports Administration Director-General Kao Chin-hsung (高俊雄) encouraged them to try their best to bag medals to honor Taiwan.
