Taiwan wins 1st gold medal in Deaflympics

Chang Li-hsiao (張力孝) won the gold medal in the men’s singles bowling at the 23rd Summer Deaflympics in Samsun city, Turkey

TAIPEI (Taiwan News)–Chang Li-hsiao (張力孝) won the gold medal in the men’s singles bowling at the 23rd Summer Deaflympics in Samsun city, Turkey.

Chang, nicknamed the “left-handed geek” because he bowls left-handed, obtained the gold medal after competing against his South Korean and Russian opponents.

President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文), Vice President Chen Chien-jen (陳建仁), Premier Lin Chuan (林全) and Education Minister Pan Wen-chung (潘文忠) sent their messages congratulating the athlete as soon as they found out about his victory, according to the Sports Administration and Ministry of Education.

During the Deaflympics in 2005, Taiwan team won nine golds, four silvers and three bronzes. Chang himself won four golds and two silvers.    [FULL  STORY]
