female Olympic boxer, at the seventh World University Boxing Championship that concluded Saturday in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
Chen Nien-chin (陳念琴) took the gold in the women’s middleweight division (69-75 kilograms) after winning the final in a unanimous decision by the three ringside judges (40-36, 40-36, 39-37) against Natalia Hollinska of Poland on Saturday.
The 19-year-old boxer, who made her Olympic debut in Rio de Janeiro in mid-August, reached the gold medal bout with a unanimous decision over Russian national champion Oksana Trofimova in the semifinals of the tournament held by the International University Sports Federation as part of the World University Championships (WUC).
Meanwhile, Tu Po-wei (杜柏緯) of Taiwan claimed a silver medal in the men’s light flyweight division (46-49 kg) on Friday, after he was outpointed by Russian Vadim Kudriakov (30-27, 30-27, 30-27). [FULL STORY]
