A member of Taiwan’s navy, Su Chi-lin, has won a special award at the World Drill
Championships (WDC) in Florida.
The WDC is the world’s leading competition for post-high school solo and group drill competitors. This year, there were 36 contestants from countries around the world.
This was the first time that a Taiwanese service member was able to participate in the global competition in uniform. The 28-year-old Su said he hoped his performance would enable the world to see Taiwan.
Su is a member of Taiwan’s Navy Honor Guard. In addition to winning a special award for his eye-catching performance flipping a rifle, he also finished fourth in the solo exhibition event.
In 2015 and 2016, Su won the top prize in the solo category at Taiwan’s annual Tri-Service Honor Guard competition. [SOURCE]
