Taipei, Aug. 23 (CNA) Taiwanese triathlete Li Shiao-yu (李筱瑜) clocked 10:22:59 to successfully defend her title at the 226-km Ironman Japan Hokkaido women’s division Sunday.
Li finished the 3.8-km swimming in Lake Toya with 1:12:51, the 180-km bike leg with 5:54:25 and the 42-km road run with 3:08:53 to beat a field of 220 competitors. This was her third consecutive win of the 226-km triathlon event in Hokkaido.
A total of 1,600 athletes from 35 countries, including 220 women, participated in the race.
Li was hit by a motorcycle and became paralyzed in high school. But she managed to regain her ability to move, walk and finally run again. [FULL STORY]
