Taipei, March 8 (CNA) Taiwan’s Hsieh Su-wei (謝淑薇) and doubles partner Barbora Strycova of the Czech Republic advanced to the second round of the BNP Paribas Open women’s doubles in California on Thursday.

In their first event since taking the doubles title in the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships in late February, Hsieh and Strycova got past the tough pairing of German Julia Goerges and Czech Karolina Pliskova 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (6).

Both sides struggled to hold serve in the first set but the third-seeded Taiwan/Czech duo held serve to clinch the set after breaking their opponents in the ninth game.

They never gained traction in the second set but recovered in time to take the super tiebreaker.
