TIER: Some sectors saw uptick in July, might be unstable

Taiwan’s manufacturing and construction sectors saw improved performance in July. That is the second straight month that these two sectors have been on the up. That was according to the latest figures from the Taiwan Institute of Economic Research (TIER), the nation’s top economic think tank.

TIER said the construction sector has benefited from a growing number of public infrastructure projects. The institute also cited predictions from other economic forecasters, such as the Economic Intelligence Unit. It said the global economy has seen clear recovery in recent months, and the trend will continue in the near future.

Despite the better-then-expected performance of the manufacturing sector, TIER remains conservative about its room for improvement. It cited dwindling export orders as the main reason.    [FULL  STORY]
