The head of Taoyuan City Fire Department Hu Yin-da has stepped down following a
tragic fire that left seven dead over the weekend. The deaths have prompted the interior ministry to take a closer look at the policy for storing flammable chemicals.
Five firefighters and two migrant workers are dead after a blaze swept through a factory in the northern city of Taoyuan over the weekend.
Lawmakers observed a minute of silence before a committee meeting on Monday to remember those who lost their lives.
It took 118 firefighters nearly 40 hours to contain the blaze at the factory, which is owned by Chin Poon Industrial Company. One of the main obstacles was that the company, which makes printed circuit boards, had stored flammable chemicals in the factory.
