Tropical storm forecast to affect Taiwan during Mid-Autumn Festival

Taipei, Sept. 10 (CNA) A new tropical storm has formed in the Philippine Sea and is very likely to 42578348affect Taiwan around the time of the Mid-Autumn Festival next week, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said Saturday.

As of 2 p.m., Tropical Storm Meranti was centered 2,110 kilometers east-southeast of Eluanbi, the southernmost tip of Taiwan, and was moving at a speed of 20 km per hour in a west-northwesterly direction, the bureau said.

With a radius of 100 kilometers, the storm was carrying maximum sustained winds of about 64.8 kph, with gusts of up to 90 kph, CWB data showed.

Meranti is forecast to affect Taiwan between Sept. 13 and 15, around the time of the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday that will be celebrated Sept. 15-18 in Taiwan, according to the CWB.     [FULL  STORY]
