Tsai: Taiwan will not bow to Beijing’s pressure

its actions. Tsai was speaking following the Dominican Republic’s announcement on the same day to switch diplomatic ties from Taipei to Beijing.

Tsai said now is the time for Taiwan to stand united. She said China’s recent naval exercises and pressure on Taiwan’s diplomacy have not been friendly moves in regards to cross-strait relations. She said the recent actions on Beijing’s part have proven great disappointments to Taiwan’s people.

Tsai said Beijing’s behavior is not that of a responsible actor in the region. She further said that her government will not bow to Beijing’s pressure.

“Taiwan faces a serious diplomatic situation. However the government will not compromise by sacrificing our sovereignty or our people,” Tsai said. “We are firm on protecting the country, our freedom and our democracy. We will not accept any threats against these basic values. This is the mission of our government.”    [FULL  STORY]
