President Tsai Ing-wen on Friday said she hoped the historic meeting between the
leaders of South and North Korea will prove a step towards a more stable region.
Earlier in the day, South Korea’s president, Moon Jae-in, and North Korea’s supreme leader Kim Jong-un shook hands across the concrete line between the two sides at the Panmunjom joint security area. President Tsai said of the meeting, “We hope this is a step towards more stable development in the region. For what comes next, I am sure we will all continue to take note and to watch.”
Asked if she herself would consider a meeting with China’s top leader, Tsai said that she believed no president of Taiwan would refuse to meet with China’s leader as long as the meeting had no political preconditions and was conducted under the principle of equal treatment. [SOURCE]
