Universiade torch relay passes through Bangkok

Bangkok, June 25 (CNA) The torch for the 2017 Summer Universiade was passed to a Taiwanese

athlete at a ceremony in Bangkok on Sunday, which hosted the third leg of the relay after the Italian city of Naples.

The torch, which was lit in Italy’s Turin on June 20 at the start of its two-month relay, will make the final stop in Taipei for the opening ceremony of the 29th international multi-sport event for university athletes.

Chung Yung-feng (鍾永豐), head of Taipei City’s Department of Cultural Affairs, was at the relay event to accept the ceremonial torch from Thai torchbearers at Thammasat University’s Rangsit campus, which was the venue of the 1998 Asian Games and 2007 Summer Universiade.

Chung then passed the torch to Taiwanese professional tennis player Lee Hsin-han (李欣翰).
