local urban planning commissions, and the commission’s reviewing process must be open to the public. The amendment also says local governments must negotiate with people who are not willing to move from their homes.

Premier William Lai quoted figures from the interior ministry. He said close to half of the 8.5 million residences in Taiwan are more than 30 years old and may be prone to structural weakness. Lai said the revision is needed to facilitate urban renewal.

Lai said he hopes the interior ministry will communicate the new articles of the revision with the public.    [FULL  STORY]
