China’s Global Times has published a short video purporting to show a Taiwanese fishing boat seeking assistance from Chinese authorities. The outlet is run under the auspices of the Communist Party.

The video purports to record a conversation between a Taiwanese fishing boat and local authorities in Guangzhou. The crew of the boat ask if the Diaoyutai islands are under Chinese jurisdiction. The response is “Yes, that is correct.” The crew ask if they can request Chinese assistance in the waters around the Diaoyutai.
