‘Violence can be numbing’: Giddens Ko’s new film hits back at cyberbullying

deeds come back to haunt you. Novelists and director Giddens Ko has put his personal experience and social observations into his new movie, which lays this bloody reality bare.

In 2011, the rom com “You Are the Apple of My Eye (那些年,我們一起追的女孩), Ko’s directorial debut, became a breakout hit, taking the Greater China and Asia markets by storm. Now, after six years, Ko is back with “Mon Mon Mon Monsters!” (報告老師!怪怪怪怪物!), which premiered July 28. The new film has the same subject matter as “Apple” — they’re both high school dramas centering on self-styled punks — but there’s a key difference: “Monster” isn’t a comedy.
