Water supply cuts could affect 1 million Taipei households (update)

Taipei, Sept. 28 (CNA) Water supplies in parts of Taipei were suspended Monday due to 23778505the effects of Tyhoon Dujuan, with one official estimating that the suspension could affect up to 1 million households in the city in the 24 hours after 7 p.m. that day.

As of Monday evening, the raw water turbidity at the Zhitan Water Purification Plant in Taipei had reached 12,000 nephelometric turbidity units (NTU), meeting the threshold for a shut-down, said Chen Man-li (陳曼莉), deputy director of the Taipei Water Department.

According to a new standard operating procedure (SOP) adopted by the water department, Taipei’s water purification plants will cut back their operations if the raw water turbidity reaches 6,000 to 12,000 NTUs and will shut down altogether if the turbidity exceeds 12,000 NTUs.
