TAIPEI — Taiwanese left-hander Wei-Yin Chen (陳偉殷) picked up his fourth win of the year for the
Miami Marlins and the 50th of his MLB career when his team routed the San Diego Padres 13-4 on Monday night.
The 30-year-old Chen, who had never faced the Padres, got the win despite yielding four solo homers in six innings. He gave up seven hits and one walk while striking out seven.
The Marlins had 19 hits, including three by Ichiro Suzuki, and put the game out of reach with a seven-run rally in the top of the third inning that gave them an 8-1 lead.
Monday’s win was the 50th of Chen’s Major League Baseball career after racking up 36 wins pitching professionally for the Chunichi Dragons in Japan from 2008 to 2011.
His MLB total is the second-most for any Taiwanese pitcher, trailing only the 65 wins posted by Chien-Ming Wang (王建民), who won most of his games as a starter for the New York Yankees but is now a reliever for the Kansas City Royals. [FULL STORY]
