Culture Minister: Let the people decide on CKS Memorial

into question both the name and the purpose of the building. That’s following the legislature’s passage of an act on transitional justice last week.

Chiang is seen as a symbol of the authoritarian period in Taiwan.

On Monday, Culture Minister Cheng Li-chiun said the public should come to a consensus on what the memorial should be used for. She said that changes to the memorial hall would involve political, legal and social issues. The minister said that once the public comes to a consensus on the memorial’s future, the culture ministry will send a proposal to the government.    [FULL  STORY]
