Uni-President Lions roughed up the previously red-hot Chinatrust Brothers 8-3 at the Sinjhuang Baseball Stadium in New Taipei City last night to start their three-game series on a high note.

The win not only nipped a four-game winning streak for the top-ranked Brothers, but also cut their lead over the second-placed Lions to just two games as the Cats look to make up some ground against the league leaders with a strong showing over the weekend.

Knowing they needed a fast start against the in-form Brothers, the home Lions wasted little time getting on the board with a pair of runs in the opening frame when Liu Fu-hao went deep against Brothers starter Lin Ying-chieh with a two-run blast.

After a scoreless second and third, Uni-President doubled their lead in the fourth, with Kuo Fu-lin legging out an infield single against Lin Ying-chieh and scoring on Lin Chih-hsiang’s sacrifice fly before Liu singled in his third RBI of the game one batter later.     [FULL  STORY]

The injury-prone Spaniard fell to the ground in pain after an awkward stumble in the first set, with several tense minutes passing before she gingerly returned to the court.

Marin went on to defeat the unseeded Pai 21-11, 18-21, 21-17 but it was an unsettling experience for the top seed, who nearly missed the world championships entirely due to a separate injury.     [FULL  STORY]

The red-hot Chinatrust Brothers continued their winning ways by topping the EDA Rhinos on the road in an impressive 7-2 victory earlier this week to cap a three-game non-losing streak.

Despite their disappointing first half, which saw them go 27-33 to top the last-placed Uni-President Lions by a mere half game, the men in their familiar golden uniforms have transformed into a formidable force in the second half, rolling off a 14-5-1 record to lead the league.

“We are just getting the fundamentals down a little better compared with before, that’s all,” interim manager Wu Fu-lien said about his troops’ recent success, which includes three multi-game win streaks.     [FULL  STORY]
