Taipei, Sept. 9 (CNA) The Central Weather Bureau issued heavy rain warnings Friday afternoon for 51364929fifteen cities and counties due to a strong convective system above Taiwan.

The affected areas include Taipei, New Taipei, Keelung, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Miaoli, Taichung, Nantou, Yunlin, Chiayi, Tainan, Kaohsiung, Pingtung, Yilan and Hualien, forecasters said.

Among them, the southernmost Taiwan county of Pingtung has been hit with “extremely heavy rain” — defined as 200 mm of rain in a 24-hour period or 100 mm of rain in a three-hour time frame — the bureau said.

In fact, between 2-3 p.m., Majia Township in Pingtung had already topped the country with 92 mm of accumulated rainfall, bureau data showed.

rainfall Tuesday, with heavy downpours likely in certain areas, due to strengthened southwesterly winds and a moist low-pressure system moving north from the Bashi Channel, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said.

In northern Taiwan, brief periods of heavy rain may also occur, the bureau said.

It predicted that the weather will remain rainy during the remainder of the week, given that a cloud system from Southern China will approach Taiwan after the low-pressure system moves south Thursday.

Also Tuesday, a tropical depression located south of Japan’s Okinawa strengthened to become a tropical storm, named Malou, at 8 a.m., according to the CWB.

Malou is forecast to continue to move northeast toward Japan and is not expected to affect Taiwan, the bureau said.     [SOURCE]

Under the influence of northeasterly winds and rain system brought by Typhoon Lionrock, cooler 6772844temperatures and heavy rains are expected across Taiwan, with northern part of the island being affected the most, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said Sunday.

Cooler temperatures and heavy rains are on the way for Taiwan from late Sunday into early Tuesday, as the effects of northeasterly winds and rain system brought by Typhoon Lionrock show early signs of autumn this year.

Temperatures in northern Taiwan are expected to drop to 25-26 degrees, according to the latest forecast. The CWB has issued a heavy rain warning for 10 cities and counties in central and northern Taiwan on Sunday, including Keelung, New Taipei, Taipei, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Miaoli, Taichung, Nantou, and Yilan.

Meanwhile, the 10th tropical storm of this year, Lionrock, is moving northeast towards eastern side of Japan and poised to make landfall in the Northeast Asian nation early in the new week.     [FULL  STORY]

bring temperatures down in Taiwan from Sunday to Aug. 30, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said Friday.

Daily highs are forecast to drop from 36 to 37 degrees Celsius to 31 to 34 degrees in the north and by 1 to 2 degrees to 33 degrees in central Taiwan, 32 degrees in the south and 31 to 32 degrees in the east over the three days, bureau data showed.

The bureau also issued a big wave alert on Friday for northern and eastern Taiwan, Hengchun Peninsula in the south, and the offshore Matsu Islands, Green Island and Orchid Island, saying 1.5 meter-high waves have been observed in Matsu.      [FULL  STORY]

The 10th tropical storm of this year, Lionrock, though will not hit Taiwan directly, is expected to bring 6772658rain to northern Taiwan over the weekend, according to Central Weather Bureau (CWB).

Keelung, Yilan, and Hualien would experience increased cloudiness with chances of localized rains, the bureau said.

Under the influence of the peripheral cloud system, eastern and southern Taiwan could also see brief showers.

Three tropical storms had formed over the western Pacific Ocean since last Thursday. The movement of Lionrock is expected to reach Japan’s Ryukyu Islands by Wednesday, and will not hit Taiwan directly, according to the latest forecast.

However, the bureau noted that it will continue to observe Lionrock’s movement over the next few days, as it does not exclude the possibility of the storm approaching the island.     [FULL  STORY]

them are expected to affect Taiwan, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said Wednesday.

According to the CWB, two of the depressions are located off the coast of China’s Guangdong Province and will converge into one system as they move toward Guangdong.

The other low pressure system is currently located west northwest of Wake Island and is moving at 20 kilometers per hour in a northwest direction, the bureau said.

As that system is still some 4,000 km away from Taiwan, it is not likely to affect Taiwan soon, the CWB said, adding that it was too early to forecast whether that depression would develop into a tropical storm.     [FULL  STORY]
