The Internal Administration Committee of Taiwan’s legislature has passed a preliminary review of a draft bill governing Taiwan’s national security.

Under the draft bill, military personnel, teachers and civil servants, convicted of spying for China would lose their pension. That applies not only to people who are still on the job, but to retirees as well.

The draft bill was proposed by DPP lawmaker Liu Shih-fang as a response to the growing threat of terrorism around the world.

Under the draft bill, it would also be illegal to gather, collect, leak and transfer confidential documents, books or electronic records to any terrorist organization or individual, including ones in mainland China.

Those organizations include both government-affiliated and private ones.
