TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The National Communications Commission (NCC, 國家通訊傳播委員會) was planning to ban broadcasters and telecom operators from using equipment supplied by China, reports said Wednesday.

Out of national security considerations, the commission had decided to amend regulations to cover equipment used in areas such as satellite television, broadcasting and telecommunications, the Central News Agency reported.

Since the awarding of 4G licenses in 2013, Taiwan had already restricted the use of Chinese-made equipment, so Wednesday’s decision was only a measure to make regulations more consistent, according to the NCC.

A spokesman said that relevant businesses would still be asked for their opinions, while a list of banned products would be passed on to national security organs for their review.    [FULL  STORY]
