A report broadcast on CtiTV’s news channel (中天新聞台) has been slammed for alleging that American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) Chairman Raymond Burghardt hinted that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and Beijing are working together on a “formula” for the development of cross-strait relations.

The report, that was aired on Tuesday, showed Burghardt delivering a luncheon speech at a public conference entitled “Relations Across the Taiwan Strait: retrospectives and prospects for future development,” which was hosted on Monday by the Brookings Institution in Washington.     [FULL  STORY]

Food and Drug Administration about allegations that the Ministry of Health and Welfare department directly told China about its checks on a company factory.

FDA inspectors visited an I-Mei factory in Nankan, Taoyuan City, and alleged they found wrongly labeled products. As a result, customs in China were blocking the import of some of its food products.

On Saturday, the company listed a number of what it called dubious and unfair points made by the FDA.     [FULL  STORY]

Hsia attended two meetings at think tanks in New York, chaired respectively by Donald S. Zagoria, senior vice president of the National Committee on American Foreign Policy, and Elizabeth Economy, director for Asia Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations.

four-day run, featuring cooking displays and a variety of delicious foods from around Taiwan, according to the Taiwan Visitors Association.

This year’s exhibition has a Taiwan Agriculture Hall for the first time, showcasing 128 products from 92 farmer’s associations, said Council of Agriculture official Su Meng-lan.

The first Formosa Railroad Bento Festival is seeking to revive people’s memories of eating on a moving train during trips that offered memorable snapshots into their lives, said the Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA), which is organizing the event.

Hung Hsiu-chu would finish third behind Democratic Progressive Party Chairwoman Tsai Ing-wen and People First Party Chairman James Soong, according to a new opinion poll published Friday.

The KMT is expected to confirm Hung’s nomination at a congress this Sunday, while Soong has said he would wait until the July 19 event to announce his decision, though he is widely expected to run.

According to a new survey by the Taiwan Brain Trust, Tsai would win 46.5 percent of the vote if she had to face down both candidates from the “blue” camp. Soong would receive 23.6 percent and Hung would finish last with 17 percent.     [FULL  STORY]

Many Taipei officials attended a welcome party in Houston when Taipei-based EVA Airways launched a direct flight between the two cities in June, but Parker was not able to attend so she arranged this visit to show her support for the route, said Lin Chung-chieh (林崇傑), head of Taipei’s Economic Development Department.

northeastern county of Yilan, started on July 17, according to the town’s mayor Chen Chin-lin.

The Su’ao Cold Spring Festival has been held since 2002, a special promotional event launched by the township administration, attracting visitors to engage in a sightseeing tour of the town.

The main five promotions of the festival this year will be the cold spring, sea food, beautiful seascapes, ten distinctive souvenirs and the worship of Mazu, goddess of the sea, Chen said.

The highlight of this festival will be the water splashing event held in the square in front of the Su’ao train station on the second day. Visitors beat the summer heat while dousing each other with water.     [FULL  STORY]

Support for Hung has fallen by 10 points, poll finds

A poll conducted by the Taiwan Brain Trust think tank found that support for presumptive Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) presidential candidate Hung Hsiu-chu (洪秀柱) has tumbled in the past month, falling from 31 percent last month to 21 percent in a one-to-one match-up against Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential candidate Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文).

According to the poll, the results of which were released yesterday, Tsai maintains her lead over both Hung — with 54.3 percent to 21.3 percent — and the People First Party’s (PFP) James Soong (宋楚瑜) — with 52.3 percent to 29.3 percent — in one-to-one match-ups.

Tsai also leads in the scenario in which both Hung and Soong contest the election, with Tsai enjoying 46.5 percent support over Hung’s 17 percent and Soong’s 23.6 percent.     [FULL  STORY]
