basketball players in Taiwan on Monday as he wrapped up a two-day stay in the country.

In addition to having breakfast with local young talents to share his own experience, Westbrook, one of the Jordan Brand-sponsored NBA players, was seen coaching the players in a basketball game.

Visiting Taiwan for the first time, Westbrook seemed to enjoy the time he spent with his fans, giving out signature basketballs and taking selfies with them.

“Thanks for the love Taiwan, great way to end the trip!” he wrote on his Facebook page.      [SOURCE]

Saturday afternoon at the Orient Golf & Country Club.

Taiwanese number one and world number 28 Teresa Lu (盧曉晴) took home the championship, along with a NT$1million cash prize.

“This is the first time a player from Taiwan has won the open in its five year history; the best gift the CTBC Bank could have asked for to celebrate the 50th anniversary,” said Chen Kuo-shih, vice chairman of CTBC Bank, at the trophy presentation ceremony held at the end of the event.

Lu posted 11 below par with a total of 169 over three rounds to win.

During the first two rounds, the eventual winner tied for third place with two other players, four strokes behind Thailand’s Saranporn Langkulgasettrin.

But Lu performed brilliantly in the final round, coming from behind to take the win and pushing Langkulgasettrin into second place.     [FULL STORY]

yesterday.

Taiwan started their campaign against Sri Lanka in poor fashion, their defense allowing four first-half tries to all but end the contest. Hsieh Pin-yi barged his way over for a try and Ho Ming-hsien added a try and a conversion while Sri Lanka were down to six men after a yellow card, but Ho missed the conversion to Hsieh’s score from a few meters to the right of the posts and Sri Lanka exploited some slow defenders on the flanks to take the final score to 43-12.

Taiwan’s scrum shoved Sri Lanka off their own ball in the first pack-down of the match, but atrocious handling, lazy passing and poor execution after the numerous restarts they had to wait under put them well behind the eight ball.     [FULL  STORY]

before elder sister Chan Yung-jan returned to the hard courts at Flushing Meadows in the mixed doubles to battle into the second round and keep the Taiwanese challenge on track at the final Grand Slam of the year.

Second seeds Chan Hao-ching and Chan Yung-jan took just 72 minutes to see off Chinese duo Han Xinyun and Zhang Kai-lin in the first round of the women’s doubles, converting five of nine break points as their opponents served up eight double faults in a 6-2, 6-2 victory in which they won 63 of the 108 points contested.

The Taiwanese sisters advanced to a potential second-round banana skin against unseeded Alla Kudryavtseva of Russia and Sabine Lisicki of Germany.

Chan Yung-jan, competing in her 15th US Open, then returned on Court 8 alongside Nenad Zimonjic and survived a second-set fightback against US duo Melanie Oudin and Mitchell Krueger to advance to the second round of the mixed doubles 6-0, 6-7 (4/7), 10-4 in 72 minutes.

The Taiwanese-Serbian pairing saved three of five break points and converted five of nine, winning 70 of the 122 points contested to set up a second-round clash with either eighth seeds Lucie Hradecka of the Czech Republic and Marcin Matkowski of Poland or Kudryavtseva and Scott Lipsky of the US.     [FULL  STORY]

the stadium took action against fans who displayed pro-Taiwan political slogans.

Taiwan’s team was participating under the name “Chinese Taipei,” the nation’s official designation in international sports events. During Taiwan’s game against Japan, a group of college students held up a banner saying “Taiwan is just Taiwan, Taiwan is not Chinese Taipei” in the bleachers behind home base. Soon after it went up, the banner was ripped down and the students were dispersed by staff from the Chinese Taipei Baseball Association (CTBA).

The students are filing lawsuits against the CTBA for what they argue constituted infringement on their freedom of speech.     [FULL  STORY]

Karlovic, 37, beat the previous best of 49 aces for one match in New York served up by Richard Krajicek in his quarter-final loss to Yevgeny Kafelnikov in 1999.

friendly against Japan after the hosts were unable to find the net, falling to the visitors 2-0 at the Taipei Municipal Stadium on Monday.

Taiwan coach Satoshi Imai experimented with an unorthodox 4-6-0 formation on Monday, in which both sides fielded college-level players who are eligible for next year’s Universiade in Taipei.

However, Imai’s tactic of packing six midfielders in the center of the pitch in a bid to win possession and push attacks from deep failed to create the intended result.

In that first game of the Taiwan-Japan friendly series, co-organized with the Japan University Football Association, Japan captain Takuya Shigehiro opened the account with a long-range effort in the 38th minute.

Taiwan almost got an equalizer three minutes from the break, when midfielder Chen Chia-chun fed a cross to Lo Chih-hsien in the box, but Lo headed the ball just wide of the post.     [FULL  STORY]
