TAIPEI (Taiwan News)–New national records were set on Monday in the men’s 100-
meter sprint and the 110m hurdles at this year’s National Intercollegiate Athletic Games being held at National Taiwan University.
Hank Yang (楊俊瀚), dubbed the fastest man in Taiwan, clocked a time of 10.22 seconds in the men’s 100-meter sprint, smashing the national record of 10.28 seconds set by Yi Wei-chen (易緯鎮) in 2012.
Yang from National Taiwan University of Sport was awarded a cash prize of NT$60,000 (US$1,990) by the Chinese Taipei Athletics Association for breaking the record.
The world record in the event is 9.58 seconds, set by Usain Bolt of Jamaica in 2009.
