Taiwan’s children choir wins gold in European competition

Prix of Nations Magdeburg 2015, which was held in Germany from July 5 to 12, the school said Monday.

The Grand Prix of Nations, part of the European Choir Games, is a top-level competition for amateur choirs held every two years that took place this year in Magdeburg, a historical city located in the heart of Germany.

The Grand Prix of Nations Magdeburg 2015 had six different categories, and the Fu-Hsing choir won the title in the children’s category with a score of 90.8.

his first visit to the island in his 28-year career, attracting some 500 fans who greeted him at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport.

Kimura will stay for four days and feature in a short film promoting tourism in Taiwan directed by Hong Kong director John Woo, a Taiwan Tourism Bureau official said Sunday.

The film, which is to be launched by the bureau, is part of a NT$50 million (US$1.61 million) plan to promote tourism.

The film will be about food and culture in Taiwan and is to be shot over two days, scheduled for release by the end of the year in Japan. Taiwanese fans will be able to see it online, the official added.     [FULL  STORY]

action movie actor Bruce Lee (李小龍), a new book that will reveal secrets to his romance with a former Taiwanese actress Betty Ting Pei (丁佩), is scheduled to go on sale in China beginning on July 20, according to a report published recently by a China-based daily.

The content of the new book, entitled “The Old Days of Bruce Lee and Me: Half a Lifetime of Practice, a Lifelong Memory,” is based on an oral account by Ting, the Huaxi Urban Daily reported.

The well-known Hong Kong-American martial art star died at age of 32 on July 20, 1973 at Ting’s residence in the former British colony, leaving the former Taiwanese actress in the center of a string of rumors.

The prestigious competition, held every four years for pianists, violinists and cellists between the ages of 16 and 30, did not award a first prize in the violin category this time around. The Taiwanese pop star, nominated in seven categories, won three awards for best Mandarin album for “Play,” best vocal recording album and best single producer.

Celebrities and musicians from the Chinese-speaking world attended Saturday night’s ceremony, Taiwan’s equivalent of the Grammy Awards.

Screaming fans swarmed the entrance to Taipei Arena to watch their favorite stars walk the red carpet. Early arrival Jay Chou, a best album nominee for “Aiyo, Not Bad,” acknowledged his fans’ support and said he was nervous to be attending the awards.

will each be seeking to grab their third title of Best Mandarin Female Singer at the Golden Melody Awards ceremony Saturday night.

Saturday’s ceremony will see the two divas competing with each other in the category of Best Mandarin Female Singer for the sixth time.

A-mei won the award in 2002 with her album “Truth” and again in 2010 with “A-mit,” while Mok grabbed the title in 2011 with “Precious” and in 2003 with “i.”

Five Taiwanese groups to perform at Avignon Festival Off

Five Taiwanese groups are set to perform in the upcoming Avignon Festival Off, bringing a diverse copy1lineup of dance, drama and visual arts performances.

From July 5-25, Riverbed Theatre, 8213 Physical Dance Theater, Langasan Theatre, Horse and In Theatre will stage shows at the Avignon Festival Off, a fringe event that parallels the annual Avignon Festival, Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture said Monday.

Riverbed Theatre will perform Reves de riz, a production that draws inspiration from traditional Liyuan opera and Nanguan dance, and 8213 Physical Dance Theater will present an experimental dance theater piece called Unlimited Soul.

Langasan Theatre will stage the production Misa-Lisin, which includes ancient indigenous Amis tunes, rituals and myths.

FreeSteps by dance group Horse will focus on six dancers and their movements, rhythms and moods, and In Theatre’s Tschuss!! Bunny will explore the meaning of parting and rebirth through humor and dance.     [FULL  STORY]
