Miami Marlins and the 50th of his MLB career when his team routed the San Diego Padres 13-4 on Monday night.

The 30-year-old Chen, who had never faced the Padres, got the win despite yielding four solo homers in six innings. He gave up seven hits and one walk while striking out seven.

The Marlins had 19 hits, including three by Ichiro Suzuki, and put the game out of reach with a seven-run rally in the top of the third inning that gave them an 8-1 lead.

Monday’s win was the 50th of Chen’s Major League Baseball career after racking up 36 wins pitching professionally for the Chunichi Dragons in Japan from 2008 to 2011.

His MLB total is the second-most for any Taiwanese pitcher, trailing only the 65 wins posted by Chien-Ming Wang (王建民), who won most of his games as a starter for the New York Yankees but is now a reliever for the Kansas City Royals.     [FULL  STORY]

As the camp coincided with Taiwan’s four-day Dragon Boat Festival holiday, Lin and Williams were treated to a traditional food for the festival called zongzi — glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo and stuffed with different fillings — at the camp.

After the NBA season concluded in June, he rested for only two weeks before resuming training, Lin told reporters in Mandarin before the camp.     [FULL  STORY]

the EDA Rhinos 7-5 in Taichung, securing their league-best 32 wins against 20 losses for this year’s campaign thus far.
After the game, most of the near-capacity audience at the Taichung Intercontinental Baseball Stadium tossed yellow streamers — the Brothers’ traditional club color — in the air in local baseball title-winning celebration.

By winning the first-half title, the Brothers secured a berth at the end-of-season championship finals, the Taiwan Series, in which they are to face the winner of the second-half title.

Players and club officials congratulated each other after the game, with some joining fans for selfies.

The joyous mood was in sharp contrast with the downcast atmosphere earlier this week, when team owner Jeffrey Koo Jr was summoned for questioning and released on NT$100 million (US$3.1 million) bail, while CTBC Financial Holding offices were raided in connection with an investigation into financial irregularities.     [FULL  STORY]

Taipei, June 10 (CNA) NBA player Jeremy Lin (林書豪), who is back on the free-agent market after 2016061000131declining his player option with the Charlotte Hornets on Tuesday, said in Taipei on Friday that he will consider many factors when choosing his next team.

“Everyone knows that I’m a free agent. The most important thing for me is that I want to be happy,” said Lin in Mandarin in an interview with local media after arriving in Taiwan on Friday as part of his annual Asia tour.

Among the factors that will determine the best fit for him will be his new team’s style of play, whether his coach likes him and whether his teammates are “humble,” said Lin, the first NBA player of Taiwanese descent.

“And of course, it will depend on whether I am a starter and how much playing time I get,” the 27-year-old point guard said. “I will take all that into consideration.”     [FULL  STORY]
