knocked out by a boxer within seven seconds on May 4, a few days after the infamous match between an MMA gym owner and self-professed “tai chi master.”

This time, another faux fighter, who claimed to be a disciple of the Wudang (武當) style of kung fu, is shown in a Weibo video being bounded to the turf like a rag doll in seven seconds by a boxer.

In the grainy video titled “Wudang kung fu master fights for traditional martial arts at a fight club, but doesn’t last for seven seconds,” a man is see wearing a black kung fu uniform with white boxing gloves, while a bare-chested boxer can be seen with bright green boxing gloves. Not to leave viewers disappointed, the boxer quickly goes to work and punches the pseudo kung fu “master” to a pulp.

The video is the latest in a series of videos showing purported “kung fu masters” taking on mixed martial artists and boxers. The previous being the clash between an MMA gym promoter Xu Xiao-dong (徐曉冬) and a massage therapist turned “tai chi master” Wei Lei (魏雷), which ended with the latter being punched into submission within ten seconds.    [FULL  STORY]

visitors to a 16-9 victory against the Uni-President Lions in Tainan, while the Fubon Guardians seized two late runs for a 3-2 win against the Brothers Baseball Club in New Taipei City yesterday.

Wang, nicknamed “The King” by fans, had another productive day with five hits, a home run and a double and scored four runs to wrap up another three-game sweep of the Lions.

Lamigo were ungracious guests at the Tainan Municipal Baseball Stadium, shutting out the hosts 3-0 on Friday.

Wang hit a solo homer in a 7-3 win on Saturday and finished the three-game sweep by setting a league record 27 hits by one team in one game.

The Lions were outclassed by Lamigo who took a three-game sweep against the Lions in their home stand series in Taoyuan last week.

The media spotlight was on Wang throughout the week, with several Japanese baseball scouts attending Lamigo games to follow last season’s Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) most valuable player award winner, with the intention of contracting him to Japan next season.    [FULL  STORY]

Chiang greeted the crowd at Kauffman Stadium, the home field of the Kansas City Royals ahead of their game against the Baltimore Orioles. He waved the Taiwanese flag as he made his way to the pitcher’s mound. The crowd then gave him a warm round of applause after his pitch. The entire process was broadcast live on Chiang’s Facebook page.

Chiang’s appearance at the baseball game is part of an ongoing trip to Leawood, Kansas, which has been a sister city of Yilan since 1988. He’s there on the invitation of Leawood Mayor Peggy Dunn.

China drops out of team competitions for Taipei Universiade

Universiade was held on May 11 in the Taipei Shangri-la Hotel, but China did not sign up for any team sports due to a scheduling conflict with the National Games of China.

According to the International University Sports Federation (FISU), the Chinese delegation sent a letter before and indicated that China is willing to attend the Taipei Universiade, but unable to send athletes for the team events. It did not provide any further reasons or explanations.

However, the Chinese delegation spoke to the Taipei city government two days ago and explained that during the same period most of the top Chinese athletes will represent their own province at the National Games of China, the premier sporting event in China at the national level, Taipei Universiade Organizing Committee executive director Su Li-chiong(蘇麗瓊) said.    [FULL  STORY]

Men’s 4×400 relay team set new national record at college games

Taipei, May 10 (CNA) The men’s 4x400m relay team from National Taiwan University of Sports created a new national record Wednesday, clocking 3 minutes, 07.29 seconds at the National Intercollegiate Athletic Games in Taipei.

The team, comprising Yu Chia-hsuan (余嘉軒), Wang Wei-hsu (王偉旭), Yu Chen-yih (余晨逸) and Chen Chieh (陳傑), broke the record of 3:07.61 set by Taiwan’s national team at the 1998 Asian Games in Bangkok, Thailand.

A United States team, composed of Andrew Valmon, Quincy Watts, Butch Reynolds and Michael Johnson, created the current men’s 4x400m outdoor world record on Aug. 22, 1993 at a track and athletics event in Stuttgart, Germany, clocking 2:54.29, according to the International Association of Athletics Federations.   [FULL  STORY]

Hank Yang (楊俊瀚), dubbed the fastest man in Taiwan, clocked a time of 10.22 seconds in the men’s 100-meter sprint, smashing the national record of 10.28 seconds set by Yi Wei-chen (易緯鎮) in 2012.

Yang from National Taiwan University of Sport was awarded a cash prize of NT$60,000 (US$1,990) by the Chinese Taipei Athletics Association for breaking the record.

The world record in the event is 9.58 seconds, set by Usain Bolt of Jamaica in 2009.

Top badminton stars to defend titles in Taiwan next month

Taipei, May 8 (CNA) Top Taiwanese badminton players Tai Tzu-ying (戴資穎) and Chou Tien-chen (周天成) will seek to defend their titles in the women’s and men’s singles at next month’s Chinese Taipei Open, event organizers said Monday.

The participation of women’s world No. 1 Tai and men’s world No. 6 Chou will highlight the tournament, which will take place from June 27 to July 2, the Chinese Taipei Badminton Association said.

The Chinese Taipei Open is a Grand Prix Gold tournament, the fourth highest tier of events behind the Olympics/World Championship, the BWF Superseries Finals, and Superseries tourneys, and will offer US$200,000 in prize money, the association said.     [FULL  STORY]
